Editorial Standards
These are the standards behind every guide on The Side Hustle Index. They exist so you can trust what you read, and check it yourself.
1. Official sources, linked
Every licensing, permit, fee, and tax claim links to the official source: the agency page, form instructions, or statute. That includes the Arizona Corporation Commission, the Arizona Department of Revenue and AZTaxes, the Arizona Department of Health Services, the Registrar of Contractors, the IRS, and city and county pages. Each guide ends with a Sources list.
2. Fees and numbers
- We state a fee, rate, or threshold only when we've read it on an official source, and we note the date we checked it.
- When we couldn't confirm a detail on an official page, we leave the number out or tell you plainly to confirm it with the agency before you file. We don't fill gaps with guesses.
- We don't list TPT rates or city license fees that vary by location. We link to the official tables instead.
3. "Last verified" dates and reviews
Every guide shows the date we last checked it against official sources. Pages about fast-changing rules, like short-term rental permits, carry a scheduled review date. When rules change, we update the guide and its date.
4. No fake reviews, ratings, or testing claims
- We don't publish invented reviews, testimonials, customer quotes, or star ratings.
- We don't claim to have tested something we only researched. Comparisons are labeled "researched, not tested" unless we actually used the product, and then we say how.
- There are no user reviews or comments on the site.
5. No earnings claims
We don't promise that any side hustle will earn a particular amount. We don't publish income figures we can't source. Startup costs are shown as ranges and labeled as estimates.
6. Editorial independence
- Companies can't pay to be included, ranked higher, or described more favorably.
- Where a free or do-it-yourself option exists (filing your LLC directly with the ACC, a free EIN from the IRS, IRS Free File, a spreadsheet instead of software), we say so.
- Pages with affiliate or referral links carry a disclosure box near the top, before the first such link. We don't accept affiliate commissions from insurance providers. See our affiliate disclosure.
7. Information, not advice
Our guides are general information about how Arizona rules typically work. They aren't legal, tax, or financial advice. For decisions that matter, talk to an Arizona attorney, CPA, enrolled agent, or the agency itself.
8. Corrections
If something is wrong or out of date, we want to know. Tell us what changed and, if you can, link the official source. When we confirm a correction, we fix the guide and update its "Last verified" date. Report a correction →
